A. Miss Jools – Too Far Away
First up is the UK's starlet Miss Jools. Having built her reputation as a DJ on the London underground circuit, it was Jools's Clandestino sunday night parties in the city that really put her on the map. As did her first productions alongside Audiofly, as 'Sleep Thief'. With early signings to Mobilee it was label boss Anja Schneider that immediately spotted Jools's talent, and signed her as an artist to the label. In recent months, her remix of Dave DK's 'Volar' on Moodmusic, and her own 'La Luna' on Mobilee, have stood out on her production resume. Jools opens the Las Minas E.P. in true style, with the wonderful 'Too Far Away'.
A1. Estroe - Cicumlocution
Track two looks to Holland's finest, Estroe. 2008 see's her enter her tenth year as a DJ, and it's set to be her most successful as a producer. Having learnt her trade on the floors of Amsterdam, her skills have seen her travel the globe, playing the finest floors and festivals, from the 'Dam to Detroit. Her career behind the mixing desk, has seen her release on established imprints including, Conaisseur, 7th Sign and Mezzotinto. 2007 also saw Estroe remix Alex Q's 'Mejis' on Mina. Here she gives us the brooding delight that is 'Cicumlocution'.
B. Masaya - Malita
Masaya herself joins the party. The Chilean moved at an early age to Switzerland and it was during her formative years that she discovered electronic music through the sets of DJ's including Laurent Garnier and Danny Tenaglia. Becoming a slave to the vinyl was inevitable, and in 2003 a first place in a Heineken sponsored DJ competition, set her on her path. Residencies in both Switzerland and South America have followed, and in 2005 her production career began with aplomb. 2006 saw her first release on Num Records, and more followed on Meerestief Limited and Ripperton's Perspectiv. 2008 saw the launch of her own Mina Records. On today's E.P., Masaya gives us, what I believe to be her strongest production yet. The awesome 'Malita'.
B1. Dana Ruh - Baragossa
Finally, this Female feast is rounded off by a girl who is in serious form right now. Dana Ruh has always followed her dream. Born and raised in Gera, Germany, her musical career began as a backing singer in a rock band. Studies followed, and after graduating from University, a bank trader job followed. However, the call of the music was too much, and trading in her calculator, she journeyed to Berlin. The rest as they say is history. Rocking the city's nightspots, whilst learning her her trade, she has seen her music released on labels including Brouqade Records, Einmaleins and Perspectiv. Here Dana closes the Las Minas E.P. in style, with the wonderful 'Baragossa'.
